Guidelines for Clergy Volunteers
Please read these guidelines and click the link at the bottom of the page
to CONTINUE to the clergy volunteer form.
- First, remember this is a Red Cross operation. We are here to support
the Red Cross and all our efforts must be closely coordinated with the
Shelter Manager and remain within the boundaries of Red Cross shelter management
policy.
- Each clergy volunteer will need to obtain a clergy badge from the Red
Cross. It will be the responsibility of each clergy volunteer to present
their appropriate credentials (a business card would probably suffice)
to obtain a clergy badge.
- Thirdly, this is ministry in both an inter-denominational and interfaith
setting. We must remain extremely sensitive to the different spiritual
needs and traditions of the guests who come to us for help. Let our guests
take the lead and let us concentrate on LISTENING to what they are sharing
with us. We are not here to proselytize; we are here to show genuine caring
based on our faith traditions.
- If our particular faith tradition cannot meet the spiritual need of one
who comes to us, we need to find the appropriate resource. If you run into
this type of problem, please contact Rev. Bryant Wilbourne
- Be sensitive to the fact that information shared by a victim in confidence
should remain so. Respect the privacy of every individual.
- When sharing information about help available to victims, be sure your
information is accurate.
- When sharing information about a disaster situation, be sure your facts
are accurate. Do not participate in spreading rumors that circulate following
a disaster.
